Does anyone have Amtico flooring?

What is it like and is it worth the money? I've been looking at the brochures and got a quote which was actually less than I thought, so just wanted to ask if anyone can give me their recommendations! Is it hard wearing? We are thinking of tiles for the kitchen and wood flooring in the living room. At our last place we had really expensive hard wood flooring put down but it got terribly scratched and I don't want that again. Thanks in advance!

It's been down in our bathroom for about 11 years, still looks exactly the same. But then, we don't go into the bathroom in wellies and stilletos, we don't drop knives and pans on it... you get the picture.

Thanks PlanetEarth. I'm not expecting it to be indestructable but I think DH is!

We've also had it in our (postage-stamp sized) bathroom for 11 years and it still looks fantastic, though as PlanetEarth says, we pad around in there in bare feet and don't generally drop heavy objects on it.

We got Karndean (Sp) in our kitchen/diner and it is fabulous. Same shit different smell to amtico

Definitely worth the money

THe only floor EVER that I can't fault

CuppaTeaJanice · 02/02/2011 09:29

We use amtico floor tiles as placemats!

Very hardwearing, although the corner has been knocked off of one tile. DS probably dropped it!

We have amtico in bathroom, kitchen and utility and bought it online for a lot cheaper, then just got it fitted by a local guy, it looks fantastic.
My in laws have Karndean in a large open plan lounge diner and it's splitting apart between the 'planks' in high traffic areas, they said they wouldn't have it again, they would put amtico in next time and pay the slight extra.
I'm not saying that would happen every time obviously but just a warning.

mamatomany · 02/02/2011 10:21

Where did you buy it online propercrimbo ?

wolfhound · 02/02/2011 10:23

Got amtico in the playroom (it was there when we bought the house so can't comment on price) Looks good and doesn't seem to scratch (yet) despite hard wear from kids over the last year or so.

propercrimbo · 02/02/2011 11:05

Mama, we got it from here carpetstyle
this is the one we have, but for some reason you can't buy it online now? We paid £71.28 per pack which is 2.5 sq metres per pack. Our rooms aren't massive so we only needed three packs for bathroom and utility and two more for kitchen plus left over from bathroom and utility (did kitchen later).

Worth ringing though as it's no more than 6 months ago

propercrimbo · 02/02/2011 11:06

That price doesn't sound right, I'm sure it was nearer £50, will double check if I find the other invoice Hmm

wudbee · 02/02/2011 14:24

IMO amtico is far better than karndean which I know to our cost.

CuppaTeaJanice · 02/02/2011 15:34

Kimpton Flooring have lots of Amtico bargains too. They are very helpful in sending samples too to help you choose.

We bought most of our kitchen and bathroom flooring from them then got a local guy to fit it.

thecatatemygymsuit · 02/02/2011 15:38

Yes, we have it in the bathroom - kind of ebony-effect planks of wood, and it looks and feels fantastic, plus is extremely hard wearing. Recommended Smile!

LifeInTheSlowLane · 02/02/2011 17:51

Thanks everyone, I think we are going to get the kitchen done first in a kind of dark gray slate, then the living room eventually. Glad to know it's worth it!

we have amtico tiles in our kitchen been down for 14 years (do I win?) looks great.. could do with a good clean/refinish but once I get round to that it looks as good as new. our kitchen is also our main route into the house as our parking is at the back so we have to walk up the garden and in through the kitchen. thats why we chose it.. fab stuff.
