Anyone know about fitted wardrobes? How much do they cost (roughly?)

I'm trying to maximise space in our bedroom and thinking of getting fitted wardrobes in the two alcoves (where we currently have two smallish free-standing wardrobes which have about 30cm to spare at the side and a metre above to the ceiling). Thought fitted wardbrobes all the way up to ceiling would be a good way of maximising space and making it all look tidier.

I have no idea how much it costs though. I can't get an idea of price from websites like Hammonds or Sharps without booking a visit from a designer. Not sure I want to commit myself to that if I'm going to get quoted some ludicrously expensive price.

Anyone got an idea of roughly what they cost and whether they're worth getting?

Thanks

Ikea Pax are lovely, we have them in current home and are planning to buy more when we move (hopefully next week!). They have a couple of different sizes but might well end up looking like fitted, ours do in our current home - less than 1cm space left at top of wardrobe to ceiling.

Not sure about costs for other fitted wardrobes, I did ask my Dad (used to work in the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom industry) ages ago and he said places like Sharpes etc quote an approx amount per metre (?) and he thought it was something like £700 or so? Not sure how accurate that is but it was enough to send me Ikea-wards!

I do love fitted wardrobes though, they take so much more stuff than you expect - leaving more space in your bedroom for you to hoarde more crap!!Grin (Or is that just me??)

Ooh thanks for that. Have read the other thread. Can't believe that was only a week or two ago and I missed it.

I'm going to measure the floor-ceiling height to see how well the Pax ones would fit because I don't fancy spending £2k+ on a couple of wardrobes Shock
