Painter/decorator-is this a reasonable quote?

Hi everyone. Never hired someone to do this before but we just don't have the time now. We have got a quote to paint our kitchen, utility room and living room. There is a ceiling to fix up and paper, and a feature wall as well. Both kitchen and living room are a good size, while utility is pretty small. The quote includes all white paint for ceilings and woodwork, but I am supplying the wallpaper and coloured paints. What do you think of this amount - £1100 - As a quote? Reasonable? Just asking because of my lack of experience, any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

That seems pretty much in line with a quote we've just had to paint two rooms and do a few odd jobs but I'm new to this too. (Failed DIYer).

It is quite hard when you are so used to doing it yourself to then think how much that translates to someone else doing it. But I know the work would take us a solid week at least without doing anything else, and dh and I just don't have that kind of time just now. And a kitchen is not a room you can easily live without!

Sounds right to me. We had our kitchen/diner/family room (1 large room) done for about £800 and that was mate-rate. It is expensive but worth it for the finish.

Exactly ethelina, I want this to look really good if a professional is doing it, so am happy to pay iyswim, just wanting a second opinion.

My painter friend says 85% of the decorating is in the preparation. They will take most of the week to strip, plaster if necessary, sand, fill, prime, until the surface is as perfect as possible. Only then will the paint go on. There is no way on this earth that I have the patience or the ability to be that good. Grin

If they are professional you will be amazed at the finish.
