Do councils group problem families in same estates?

I have heard this said before - in your opinion/experience how true do you think this is? It's on my mind as next door is a family-sized council house currently occupied by very elderly tenant - when the tenancy comes up am wondering who are new neighbours will be.

Have namechanged because... well I don't know really I just feel really guilty for having these thoughts!

not sure about now but i know 60 plus years ago my father was rehoused after slum clearance with other peolple from slum clearance to the same new estate.another new build estate you were interviewed to ensure you were of the "right" calibre.

near to where ny sister lives they house drug users next to none drug users so maybe they mix everyone.

The problem families in our village are currently being moved out to a new build estate! Whether they are trying to deliberatly integrate people I don't know?

Rules on council houses are going to change soon anyway - people will have to move on once they find work so long term tenancies will be a thing of the past!

It was like that on my old estate, HiFi, people that had been there from the start had to convince the council that they were respectable to get a place, but that has changed now. Really hope we don't get drug users, used to live next door to a dealer and his customers often knocked on our door!

Smashing, that is interesting about problem families being moved put to a new estate. I wonder what effect the new rules on tenancy will have.

I hope you don't get problem neighbours, but no, they don't group problem families on the same estate in most councils.

Many councils have so many families on their waiting list, the house will go to whoever is on top of the list, or be offered to them.

Move on once they find work? Do all people in council houses live off benefits? I don't myself or DH have always worked.

I do wonder who will move in next to me once my lovely old neighbour pops off though :( She has the corner house with a big garden and has always kept it immaculate, and I rarely hear a peep from her. I don't want a family like us lot to move in next door! :o

In most councils, there are many people on the wait list for accommodation or larger accommodation. They are either awarded points based on their state of homelessness or over-crowding or they are awarded a certain priority to bid on housing as it becomes available.

So there's no way a council can really group problem families on one estate.

It could be that by chance more than a few of such families wind up on one estate in the event that that's where housing has become available and such families were assessed as being in need of such housing.

But that would be coincidence more than deliberate.

I wish that were not the case often enough, we live in social housing (and yes, we work!) and have had our share of crummy neighbours.

We lived in a road that was half cpouncil,half private houses.We lived there happily without incident for 9 years.Then when we decided to move,an estate agent told me that our street had a bad name because all the problem families were moved there 40 years ago.We never had any trouble and sold the house to the first viewers.

Like other posters have said-it may have happened years ago-during slum clearance/after the war,but not now.
