Glam up my sitting room please

My sitting room is long and narrow and looks like a nice doctors waiting room. I have 2 brown leather sofas facing each other, a side table and a tv unit. It just looks so bland.I bought some beautiful curtains and I tried accent colours of red and taupe but its still just BLAH. Any ideas on how to make it nicer?

A sconce?

A nice rug, bright cushions plus some table lamps?

Some great pictures on the wall - doesn't need to be expensive, properly framed vintage posters or adverts or maps all look great.

I'd go for lots of different textures if I wanted a glam look in cushions, rugs, lamps, picture frames etc ... Maybe also some gold voile panels across the window. How about a big statement type mirror? You also don't say what your focal point in the room is. I'd make the most of whatever it is or create one with a console table if there wasn't one if possible. Your basics sound good to me (sits surveying the lounge we inherited on moving in 6 months ago! Hmm)

Thanks lady, Lots of fantastic ideas there with lots to think about.

Yome- you have hit the nail on the head! I have no focal point. How could I create one without breaking the bank?

I think you want to try to avoid the TV becoming the most obvious focal point.

I dont' suppose there's a fireplace or mantlepiece is there? You could create a mock mantlepiece with a display shelf with a mirror or painting over it, perhaps?

Could you have a large painting with lighting to emphasise it?
