Does this sofa look dated to you?

This one here

I need a reasonably cheap one quite quickly. I'm not sure whether this chunky cord stuff looks nice or dated? It's going in quite an ordinary room - cream walls, wood floor, no outstanding features. (No I'm not underselling it!) Thoughts anyone?

I rather like it. I like the chunky cord stuff - cosy.

LaTristesse · 24/01/2011 16:27

But Asda though...? Would you?

It doesn't look dated because the long thing is in fashion at the moment.
And no, I wouldn't get one from Asda having experienced their appalling delivery services (or lack of!) before.

NancyDrewHasaClue · 24/01/2011 16:34

Honestly I think you have more of a problem buying from Asda than the style. Because it is cheap it will not be sprung and the cushions are probably cheap foam blocks compared to feather or even scrunched up fabric/foam which means in a year it is going to look really old, saggy and worn.

Could you buy second hand off ebay etc? You can get some absolute bargains on sofas etc.

lalalonglegs · 24/01/2011 16:39

I don't think the sofa is dated but the long bit sticking out is just very odd - the proportions are all wrong. You need a sofa with less bulk to have that addition imo.

I was going to suggest ebay as well.

noddyholder · 24/01/2011 16:47

Agree with the others better to pay the same for a second hand but quality sofa It will keep its shape and structure better for longer.Corner sofas only really work in very big spaces

Laquitar · 24/01/2011 16:55

Sorry i wouldn't pay £425 for this. And i agree with Nancy's post about the quality.

Tbh i dont like chaise-especially cheap ones. Either, you have the space and the cash for a big good corner sofa or get a small normal sofa. Ikea has some good and cheap small sofas and with removable washable covers in funky colours.

LaTristesse · 24/01/2011 16:56

I get what you're saying about 2nd hand vs a cheap new one, but I have no means of picking up a sofa myself. God knows how I'm going to get shot of the old one yet either...
Interesting about the bad Asda experience - noted, thanks!
Thanks for the replies all...

Check Ikea

Francagoestohollywood · 24/01/2011 16:58

I think an Ektorp from IKEA is a much safer bet than the Asda one. Plus, IME, a cord sofa looks really shabby after a very short while.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 24/01/2011 16:59

I'm afraid I don't know anything about ASDA quality, but you probably get what you pay for with a sofa, no?

Marjoriew · 24/01/2011 17:01

I really like that, Mine is DFS in the same soft cord in aubergine.
It's so soft and comfy to site on.
I wanted a corner one but it wouldn't fit my room.

LaTristesse · 24/01/2011 17:02

Now I like the Ektorp, but am not feeling the flappy bits of fabric round the bottom, like a skirt. Prefer the tucked-in look... Any other suggestions?

OP posts:
Marjoriew · 24/01/2011 17:02

You could freecycle the old one.

RachelHRD · 24/01/2011 17:03

Some similar ones in sainsburys in the sale www.sainsburys.co.uk/sol/shop/home_and_garden/furniture/betterthanhalfpricefurniture/120326283_nevada_right_hand_mink_corner_group.html?primarySku=120676849 which I think may be better quality or try Tesco direct - my sister got a leather sofa bed from there and is very pleased with the quality and delivery.

RachelHRD · 24/01/2011 17:06

Also £10 off any item of Sainsburys furniture when you spend over £100:
Code: DD9T-JJ7M-N9DR - Offer ends 31st January

LaTristesse · 24/01/2011 17:06

Top stuff people, thanks! Smile

Marjoriew I thought about that, but then the cat peed on it. Don't think that would tempt anyone!

OP posts:
Marjoriew · 24/01/2011 17:10

Freecycle the cat - then it won't pee on the new one:)

LaTristesse · 24/01/2011 17:16

It's tempting, believe me! Smile
