i am due dc no 2 in april and we dont know if its a boy or a girl and i need to start thinking of decorating the spare bedroom. the problem is im useless at interior design i have no flare for it. does anyone know of any good websites that will show me what colours etc to put together for a room that would suit a boy or a girl. i dont really want neutral as i would like something that will last for a few years without having to replace and repaint after the birth. i have a budget of around £100 for paint curtains etc (my mother will make the curtains if i get the material)i just dont know how to put things together!!!! please help.

I's say decide on your theme/style then buy the material and have your mum make the curtins, bedding etc and then choose the paint to match the material used.

For DDs room I decided I wanted lots of bright colours with the main colour a bright red. So I painted walls white and chose white/neutral colours for furniture exept the rocking chair which is bright red. Then used the curtins, bedding/blankets, rugs and lamps etc to bring colour and personality to the room.

With DS I decided I didn't want a typical boys room colours but still 'boyish' So I went with Minty Greens and dark furiture.

These places are good idea places:

I haven't bought much fabric lately but when I did I usually found it was cheaper to buy in US and have it shipped over if I was buying a lot espically as there was more choice.

Here for fabrics:

Persoanlly I would do plain white with colourful accessories, a checked blind, spotty bedding etc

Mix up the patterns against a white background

Easy to touch up later too

Vanilla walls & mint always looks fab. Kidsline snug as a bug in unisex and I chose this for No2 - loved it. www.lullabys.co.uk/shop/kids-line-snug-as-a-bug-baby-bedding-8766-0.html

Prestigious do lovely fabric and you can source end of line etc.

I bought plain cheap curtain in yellow from Rosebys (think or was it the other cheap retailer). You can buy blackouts as extra.

Mint gingham also good.

Once you have an idea I would rec you check e-bay as you could save a fortune.

Yes, £100 is plenty - stupid spending anymore.
