Loft converters - come and advise me

We are just having architect's drawings done for our loft but the sticking point is the ceiling height which will be at Max (ie excluding eaves) 2.1m. Our architect says we should look at lowering the first floor ceiling to give it another 200mm.

2.1m sounds OK to me given that this is going to be a bedroom with small study area (ie we aren't going to be spending all day wandering around up there) and DH and I are a mere 1.75cm high but what does everyong else reckon? I am assuming that Building Regs allows a height of 2.1 but will check.

TIA

It needs to be 2 metres at the stairs is my understanding, we gave exactly the same issue, have you had any firm quotes yet ?

No quotes - architect reckons that as we are having so much work done anyway, lowering the floor won't be a biggie. Hmm I ain't so sure and also I don't want my lovely high ceilinged bedroom on the floor below to have a ceiling that is just above the window. IYSWIM
