...but I reall don;t know anything about buying/selling a house. We were lucky enough to be able to buy our house from the council six years ago at a reasonable discount (don;t flame me for not being socially right on!) and it's now worth about 60 thousand more than we paid for it. we are still fairly skint so have had to start paying interets only so obvioulsy we're not really benefitting. we're thinking about moving back to DH's home village, where we could get a really nice biger house for a lot less - obvioulsy this is a very vague idea as we would have to get jobs etc. I don't think, having looked at the job market in DH's nearest city it would be ever so hard to do that. Anyway, my question is how long does it take to sell and buy a house? I know thats a bit of a 'piece of string length' question but roughly?

Ta, sorry to sound so thick!!

Possible to do it from start to finish in about 3 months I think. But that is pretty unusual.

It depends on the chain & how long it takes for you to find a buyer for yours.

If yours is priced right & goes to a cash buyer & you go to a newbuild (just for example) where no onward chain is involved, you could be done within a month...BUT if you price the one you're selling too highly, you could wait 5 months for a buyer, then that buyer may have their own issues such as the mortgage offer expires, or you can't find somewhere you like...could take 10 months.

There are so many factors I'm afraid.

Good luck.
