To move or not? Some perspective, please ...

OK, just after some other opinions after tying myself up in knots!

We currently have a nice 4 bed detached house. It's OK, but I'v never really liked t that much and the bedrooms aren't that big, garden north facing. Nothing major, I admit.

Anyway, we've seen a lovely house which would be ideal. Still 4 bed, but much bigger rooms, big south facing garden, conservatory.

It would probably mean an extra £80k - £100k depending what we could sell ours for and what offer we made/had accepted. Thing is, we will probably be mortgage-free in about 5 years in our current place.

So, should we move to the 'perfect' house with a bigger/longer mortgage, or stay and concentrate on paying the mortgage off?

I keep changing my mind ...

I'd probably move if you are in secure employment and aren't planning any more children (maternity leaves make larger mortgages a real bitch) and it is only going to cost an extra #100k (think redecoration, stamp duty, removal costs etc etc). If you want to be really self-disciplined, you could get a mortgage with no redemption penalties and massively overpay while rates are still low so that you aren't locked into it for the next 25 years.

I'd probably move if I were in secure employment and wasn't planning... very poor grammar, tsk, tsk.
