Side return extension advice please

If you have had your side return done I'd be grateful if you could tell me what kind of doors you have at the back?

ie 1 set of French doors or 2 (ie kitchen bit and living bit)
1 set and a window?
ranch sliders?

How did you decide?

(fairly grotty part of London so security is an issue!)

also how did you connect the back reception to the side return extension? an arch knocking down whole back wall? any other way?

I'm concerned about light here

any other ideas/thoughts/suggestions/hints/tips gratefully received

thanks

will watch this with interest - contemplating doing the same this year.

We are having our house redone at the moment with a side return being put in (next door have done theirs at the same time). We've both gone for the folding doors options at the back. Ours is one which you can open one door just for a bit of air/easy access in and out to garden or otherwise fully open. They are pretty secure when locked. Back reception is open through to kitchen area but we've constructed a kind of corridor with an island/breakfast bar.

The thing you want to think about is the kind of roof you'd like - we've gone for all glass to get the most light in but next door have gone for sloping slated roof with 3 roof lights.

V similar to dinky stinky in last house. Folding sliding doors where one section could be opened like a glazed door, or the whole thing opened up. They had a really good set of locks.
We just opened up the old kitchen doorway into a wider opening with no door between the kitchen and rear reception. And blocked up the old window which had looked out from rear reception to garden. Worried we'd lose light but we added velux windows to the pitched roof on the extension and it was great.

We are doing a side extension off our kitchen. We will have well insulated brick walls and an edwardian style lantern light[large] in the roof.We are going for french windows as our house is old,and i believe sliding doors only look really good if it is a long run of doors[not just 2!]There will be no door in-between the kitchen and extension due to good insulation.the foundations and rock is being dug out now-so it is very exciting[bearing in mind we have had major architect and weather induced delays!].

Anyone recommend a company who do a really nice (reasonably priced) anthracite/black (aluminium) extension and side return glass roof with lighting in? Would really appreciate any advice.
