Floating shelves

Where's a good place to get these from? I'd like to put some shelves up in the alcove next to the fireplace and the first website I went to quoted about £150. For one shelf. It's only a piece of wood, so there must be cheaper ways to do it.

Grateful for any advice.

DIY?

Do you need to have them made? If so, this place does them to your specifications much cheaper (I'm guessing unless you've got really wide alcoves) and you can hang them yourself - I've done it, no biggie.

We recently moved into our house and needed storage in the alcoves in the sitting room. We got a quote for 800 euro for 7 floating shelves!

One trip to Ikea, 77 euro and a couple of hours later, we have lovely floating shelves. They are not real wood, but neither were the ones the carpenter was going to fit. They do look well even with the other solid wood in the room.

I could post a picture if you wanted?

This is the range we have

IKEA worked for us too - they look very solid as they are quite thick, which you might not get from the photos

We have the Lack shelves in our study. I put them up and it was very easy!
