Hillary's blinds - anyone used this company?

If you have, did you find them good value or (over) pricey? Was the visiting rep helpful or one of those you can't get rid of till you've placed a order?

I quite like the idea of a rep coming round to advise, measure, quote - and with a quote which includes fitting if we go ahead as we have a terrible habit of not putting things up once bought - but I imagine this is the expensive way to go.

Thanks for any opinions - I'm looking for a stylish, aubergine coloured roman blind if anyone has any other suggestions of where to go! Nothing at JL or Laura Ashley, so surfing....

i wouldnt recommend personally. they "lost" my order. so had to wait even longer. unreliable about coming round to fit. and also when they did eventually come round one window had been measurely wrongly in first place!
terrible customer service too.
not worth it imo

StealthPolarBear · 31/12/2010 10:31

yes, we've had good experiences
not too pushy
but expensive compared to fitting yourselves - but they do a good job

rivi · 31/12/2010 10:34

same as stealth for me but it is now 10 years since I used them. Thinking of using them now as the blinds need updating.

StealthPolarBear · 31/12/2010 10:35

We've used them fairly recently
fitters are contractors though so I suppose they can vary

ruddynorah · 31/12/2010 10:55

We used them at our old house and they were great. They're franchised so really you need local opinion. They did us some wooden Venetian blinds and they were excellent.

StealthPolarBear · 31/12/2010 10:59

franchise, that's the word, thanks :o

Fayrazzled · 31/12/2010 11:04

We've used thema couple of times and they've always been fine. Plus no hard sell and no calling you a million times to see if you've made your mind up.

Mandy21 · 31/12/2010 13:08

We asked them previously to come to the house, measure and then give us a quote for blinds for the kitchen. They were very professional, no hard sell but I thought they were very expensive (although I suppose it depends on what you are having).

Do you know of any companies locally? I asked around in the playground and someone recommended a lady / company who has made beautiful roman blinds for me for less than half the price quoted by Hilarys.

I'd go with a local company, they tend to be cheaper and more worried about their replutation.
As Mandy says, ask around for recommendations or even look in the Yellow Pages.

Very useful - thanks all. Looks like the main issue is price and local opinion, so I'll get Hillarys to quote and also ask around to get a local firm to quote.

We used them and they were ghastly. They were supposed to fit our blinds last March. It still hasn't been done properly, and I have wasted a significant proportion of my life ringing their customer services.

I wish I'd gone to John Lewis now.

ShoshanaBlue · 02/01/2011 03:15

Grandad used them very recently and they were great. It was pricey but really nicely done and no hassle. Children's safety stuff is all fitted as standard.

josiejo2 · 02/01/2011 16:59

I bought some aubergine/purple Roman blinds from them a couple of years ago. I had three companies round and these were the best quote by some way, I thought the service was great, the guy who came was not pushy at all and the blinds still look great. Since then I have bought off wood blinds off their online site web-blinds.com and that was good too but did have to get hubby to put them up which took longer than it took them to make them!!! :)

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 02/01/2011 17:02

I had them to quote and foundvthem a bit expensive, they do however have a sister company where you fit them yourselves so we ordered ours from there in the sale.

The aftersales service was ecellent.
