Need to replace old boiler. What are our options?

Our gas boiler is very old and costs a fortune. We are hoping to replace it this spring when DH receives his bonus.
I have heard about boilers that use wood pellets but don't know where to start. What have you got in your house?
Any suggestions or useful websites?

we have oil fired - but that is so bloody expensive now that I am thinking of replacing it (needs some major work anyway) and need to look at options - so not a helpful post, but bookmarking my place.
We don't have gas in the village so that isn't an option.

marking place as well, ours has broken :( and it turns out it's 30 years old and massively inefficient.

There was this piece about wood pellet boilers in the Guardian a year or two ago. It sounded as if you needed to have a lot of space (and patience) to accommodate them. I'm guessing you don't have gas in your area...
