Folding door experts - fold into the kitchen or out into the garden? Thoughts please...

We're redoing our house at the moment - small garden (big enough for a little lawn, small tiled patio area) - and will have folding doors opening out to the garden. Originally designed to open into the kitchen but the designer/door people have suggested opening it out into the garden instead. Cant really figure out what the downside of this would be (wont have any furniture out on the patio) - any thoughts?

No expert here but ours fold onto garden and we have no problems. I would think you would be encroaching on indoor space if opening inwards but that may not be an issue for you.

we have French windows, not folding, but they open out - there is always endless stuff on the floor inside, & opening in would be a PITA as we'd have to move the sodding stuff before opening Grin

(it's mostly shoes etc in our case because the french windows are the main back door, plus the floor space is limited, but I can imagine in the case of wider doors you'd have other crap littering the area!)

Brilliant guys - hadnt thought about stuff on the floor inside having to be moved every time you wanted to open them if they had to open inwards Grin

Agree with the others, get them to open out, they will really encroach on your kitchen if they open inwards.
