Please help me design a fantastic kitchen/diner

We are knocking a wall down to make a kitchen/diner. Apart from knowing that I want a breakfast bar to divide the kitchen from the dining area I am stuck!

What should I be considering? What are the best/worst decisions you have made when designing a kitchen?

Will having a free standing American fridge, rather than an integrated one, make it look like an after thought?

Pros and cons of tiles v glass splashbacks?

I really don't want to make expensive mistakes but don't know where to start.

Your help would be so appreciated.

Me too! Work starts in Jan for me, wall coming down and will have a kitchen diner. I am having an island. I am having an American fridge freezer but it will slot in a tower unit which will make a good larder space.

I am having a metal shutter cupboard and some of my units will have pull out drawers which I was recommended.

I am having black quartz worktops so hope they are OK! I decided to go for glass splashbacks instead of tiles to give it a bit of colour and also cleaning purposes!

I have also gone for underfloor heating and I was recommended to as it will be such a large space and I am having a tiled floor!!

its all very exciting but expensive! The hidden costs are amazing!

Just had my kitchen done German style with huge drawers instead of cupboards and I love it! You get much more crockery, pans ect into the drawers than cupboards.

underfloor is an absolute godsend in the winter!
