Kitchen- Midi-height units?

Hi All

We had (another) kitchen designer round last night and he suggested something we had not previously thought of, which is to have midi-height (approx 5ft high) along one wall.

I'm really taken with this idea, as being 5ft1in tall myself, tall units I can't reach to the top of are the bane of my life. I also like the idea of being able to make the kitchen decorative as well as functional by adding vases/oil bottles/whatever on top of the midi height units.

Do any of you have these height units? Are you pleased you went for them? or are they a 'fad' of the moment which will really date the kitchen in 10 years?

I think they look odd...don't really see the point of them. Much prefer waist high units and shelves or very high units. It just looks slicker but I guess it's all personal preference.

To me they are the worst of both worlds - you don't get the countertop space of waist units, and you don't get the storage space of high units.

You just get an unusably high surface that collects grease and is a bugger to clean.

I agree that very high units can be a pain to reach but I just keep the stuff I don't use much up there, and invest in a kitchen step.

i've seen them and think they look weird , also a waste of space adn you'll end up putting stuff on top them which will look messy.
