IKEA kitchen?

We will shortly be moving and we're thinking of buying a kitchen and oven and hob from IKEA, we like a couple of the designs/colours and also the prices.

Has anyone else had their kitchen from them? Please can you tell me your thoughts on it and if you would recommend getting a kitchen from them.

What sold it to me (against Magnet, B&Q etc etc) is that the units are just that bit bigger (eg base units are 6cm deeper than B&Q and 10cm deeper than my mum's independent one) - much more space AND the cost beat the others but I really couldn't see enough difference in quality to make the Ikea units seem cheap&nasty. Loads of handy things too - relatively cheap inner fittings, plinth drawers, the pan drawers come in 3s, not just in 2s...

But my space was such that I could deal with the lack of utility space behind the base units and relatively small range of sizes. I've seen people choose against Ikea for those reasons.

I chose appliances from elsewhere as well (and sink, tap) as I wasn't convinced of the quality. Appliances are Whirlpool and I didn't find great reviews. I had worktop from elsewhere too as I would have had to go for the expensive options to get the depth I needed.

I really do love my kitchen. Looking at it and more importantly, working in it.

Yeah - I liked my old one. The only thing I would say is that it's well worth getting the professionals in to install it. Ours looked a million dollars for roughly £2k! We did add some extras so that it didn't look like an IKEA kitchen though. Dress it up with thick/wide worktops, fancy splashbacks, great lighting, nice handles etc.

Our current kitchen is VILE!!! Am saving my pennies... And yes, we are going to IKEA again for the cabinets, but I'm having some big custom built shelving put in too.

We had one put in last summer and am loving it. We have units, wooden work top, sink, taps, range style cooker, microwave. We had our own fridge and dishwasher.

A builder put it in and it is all v lovely!

Another fan of ikea kitchens here, they seem to be pretty much the best value around.

However if you are installing yourself you need to factor in time to build all the cabinets, it takes a long time to put together a whole kitchen! it is straightforward enough but time consuming.

Yes their kitchens are good.

Only downside is that you have to go to Ikea. Repeatedly.

Many thanks for all the replies, I think we're def going with IKEA for our kitchen. We've decided on the white high gloss units, still deciding on the worktops and tiles or splash backs. I'd love the stone worktops but they're very pricey so may just have to go with the laminate ones.

DH says he'll do the installing himself with a little help from friends to save on costs.

DC2 due in less than 6 weeks, moving out in 3 weeks so very nervous about the whole thing, new house needs a lot work doing (nothing structural though). So here's hoping all goes well.
