Exciting colour ranges of carpets - help!

Never bought carpet before and have noted recent thread which was useful on informing about the technical/practical stuff.

Now I have to sort out colour and from what I can see at local shop everything is either beige, brown or blue!

I can understand the whole neutral thing, like magnolia walls but there must be someone who does a more interesting range.

Need carpet for stairs only, we have open plan, sort of contemporary, concertina glass doors with charcoal grey frame leading to garden and wood floors throughout. Help me please so that I don't go the beige route...

i have noticed the same problem...everything is beige these days! there are nice stripey carpets around and some red ones. in the end we went for a fairly neutral colour (brown) and decided to go for more colourful walls as there is much more out there.

It seems like it's always been beige from what the local carpet company says. Would like to go for a fine strip but it's tricky on the stairs' turns.

May go for neutral and play up pics on walls.

Hi. I help run my family's carpet shop so may be able to help. Try Brockways, Cormar and Westex for good colour choice. It depends on your budget (as always!) but Westex offer a choice of something like 120 colours. The most popular colours other than neutrals lately have been - grey (looks fab!)and plum. Stripes look really great on stairs - and a good fitter should be able to fit your winders well.

Thank you. I keep walking away from making a decision and am quickly getting nowhere. Will have a look at your suggestions. Saw some Westex but did not realise they did such a wide range.
It's funny because the 2 places that I've been to seem to be anti stripes I suspect bcos people may not be realistic in the outcome they expect ie the angles involved will mean that they don't marry up as they do on the staight.
Will keep going.....

MrsS - I've had a look and quite like some of the Cormar and Brockway - what kind of starting prices would we be looking at (could not see any list prices) say for 80/20 twists?

Hi. Cormar - you should be looking at about upwards of £19-20sq mt fitted. Really good value carpets. Brockways - upward of £22sq mt fitted (although most of their carpets are nearer £30). Good manufacturer - great quality. Westex - it's worth checking out as they do all their 120 colours in a range of qualities - but can get pretty pricey.

Certainly winders cause issues with lining up - but if you make sure you get a good fitter, they can still look fab!
