What is it with taps that don't indicate hot/cold?

I've been looking at bathroom suites and a lot of the taps I like (e.g. here) don't have a letter or red/blue to show the hot and cold directions/handles. And similarly the shower mixer fittings don't seem to show which way to turn for on/off/hot.

We have dyslexic/forgetful people in the family as well as visiting IL's. I can just see the state my mother would get in when faced with a wall of anonymous knobs to fill the bath or have a shower. Does anyone have this kind of thing in their home or do they exist only in brochures?

I am not having a go at dyslexic people by the way but this is DH's excuse for not being able to cope with the single lever kitchen tap which DOES have red/blue but he still can't figure it out.

Gah, I have come across this bollox in hotels. I've been known to give up on having a shower and just run a bath... or spend a happy half hour wasting water and their power figuring it out.

Fecking "designer" shite. Angry
