Which came first - the wooden floor or the kitchen?

Should we get our kitchen installed first and do the floor ourselves at a later date or would it be best to lay the floor first and install the kitchen after.

Would they fix a kitchen to a wooden floor ot does it's tendency to swell and shrink depending on the humidity mean that this is not best practice.

We're looking at this form a budgeting perspective first so have yet to approach the profesionals.

I don't know for sure but I reckon get the kitchen first, then the floor. That way, if you need flooring taken up to do wiring, plumbing etc, it won't disturb new floor, and also floor won't get damaged in the kitchen installation. I think many people have wooden floorboards in their kitchens, so lots of kitchens must be fixed to wood! Mine is...and my last one...and my parents one...all fine.
Lastly, if you get the flooring after, you'll need less as you'll only need to fit it around units etc, not under them as well. So might be cheaper too.

We laid the bamboo floor and then installed the kitchen over it, for two reasons, firstly, the room is huge and if we changed the kitchen layout we would have to re install flooring at an added expense, secondly, it gives a neater finish. We had already planned the kitchen layout so we knew where all the pipes and wiring would be going and any spaces needed were left.
