Am also wondering if people still wallpaper or with three crazed children and cats plaster and paint would be a better plan ?

I have 4 dcs and i have painted mine F&B Dorset Cream. My hall has no natural light and this was the only colour that looked right.I wouldn't paper as it would be trashed in no time!

Is F&B more hard wearing than Fired Earth, that didn't last 5 minutes in the kitchen :(

I've seen some halls like this where people have gone completely the opposite way and painted the walls navy or dark red with lots of pictures to break up the colour. These were quite traditional decoration schemes in old flats though - I'm not sure it would work on anything newer than Edwardian (and would need those proportions as well).

We're 1950's with a bit of an art deco thing going on throughout the house, for no other reason than i like it.
It is small too forgot to mention that.

Don't think F&B colours would work with 1950s/Art Deco look. Need something stronger/cleaner.

But we think paint rather than paper ? thats a decision of some sort made Grin
I'm thinking of a sun tunnel at the far end away from the door too, maybe that should go in first and see what we have work with then.

Yes, I think most wallpaper is revolting and it's also not very practical in a high traffic area - three crazed children, assorted bikes, pushchairs etc won't do it any favours.

Try egghshell paint, its harder wearing than emulsion and you can wipe it clean.
Not sure on colour, get the solatube in and see how it looks.
