Moving TV to the wall

So I've decided that the TV in the living room has to move as it completely dominates the room ...it would be better in the playroom, attached to the wall...high up so the little uns can't switch it off, but close enough to me in the kitchen so I can keep an eye on them

So I've worked out that we can get a bracket to fix it to the wall & we can get a flat DVD player so that it's also flush to the wall, the problem is our cable box. I really dont want to have to build a shelf for it to sit on as it would spoil the appearance of everything else sitting fairly flat against the wall....how does everyone else manage it? Whenever I've seen wall mounted TVs, there never seem to be any cables/dvd players/cable boxes in sight..how do they manage it?

Advice much appreaciated

Buy scart extension lead and put the non-TV bits in a less obtrusive area? Lots of flatscreens come with built-in DVD players and built in digital capability (we only have freeview but perhaps you can upgrade to larger packages on these without lots of boxes etc?).

Yes don't hang too high, not good ergonomics to be straining neck to watch tv high up! We use the cable tidy that comes out from the side of tv as one big tube, have had no probs with our kids pulling wires, they are 4 and 2.

Thanks for the advie re height..will have to measure against my youngers who has a habit of turning the TV off

I've been reading about IR senders who divert the signal to the able box stored elsewhere...might go with one of those

Thanks for all your help....thought I was been bizarrely fussy
