I've got an old wing backed chair with wooden legs that I've been meaning to get reupholstered for years- but it's so expensive! Is it easy to do it yourself? Any tips gratefully received thanks Smile

It can be quite difficult. Could you do a course locally and have the chair as your project?

Thought it must be hard! Hadn't thought of courses, will investigate!

I think that's your best bet. I have a chair which I stripped and upholstered on my own at home. It looks okay but without supervision from someone who knows what they're doing it can be difficult to get the stuffing even, the springs evenly sprung, even the initial webbing to the right tension. Also if you do a course, you're likely to access to tools and bench space that might not be available at home.

I would get more quotes and try it get it done professionally, I think its worth it for the finished effect.

Thanks franke it really does sound like I need some guidance.
pannacotta I've had several quotes now & they were all really expensive- nearly as much as buying a replacement chair in a posh shop! I had a guy recommended who was meant to be cheaper but he hasn't turned up yet to have a look- need to chase him about it!
