Downstairs shower - will it be useful?

Currently planning a 2 phase extension to create a kitchen /diner and a link between kitchen and detached garage for utility area.

DP wants to put sink / toilet and shower in utility extension, I'm not so sure it'll get used.

We currently have a small family bathroom and separate toilet upstairs, so agree downstairs loo would be helpful but need to be persuaded on shower idea.

Any thoughts?

We have one, almost exactly as you describe, loo and shower off utility extension. It gets used lots as we only have a crappy overbath electric shower upstairs.

My advice to make sure its used lots is put in the most fabulous shower and enclosure you can afford so its always the most appealing option, always have nice towels handy and warm, and keep a bathrobe on the back of the door to avoid those running-through-the-house-nekkid moments.

We have just had one installed.We have a large walk-in enclosure plus a traditional rainbath shower.My kids love it and like to shower themselves so it makes life much easier for me.I would totally recommend it. I have made it luxurious with a heated towel rail,lots of insulaton and a marble tiled floor so its nice to look at and to use.

Thanks both for really helpful comments, am coming around to the idea, especially as our bathroom shower is disappointingly dribbly.

Am hoping a new combi boiler should sort that out, but that's another thread.
