Hi, we've just bought a new house and completing on it tomorrow. The entire place needs updating so looking at new kitchen, bathroom and general painting and redecorating throughout.

We're on a tight budget so looking to get as good a deal as possible.

Is Homebase one of the best places to go for the kitchen and bathroom? Or have people found other places to be cheaper?

Thanks. I'm a first time homeowner so pretty clueless at the moment!

You could try Ikea for kitchen units and get a local fitter to put it in for you then qualified gas/electricity guys for lights, oven etc.

We had a new bathroom and sourced everything ourselves - try local bathroom shops for ex display stuff - we were offered brand new towel rails and other bits for half price and they were almost new. Find out when they change their displays and ask. Get a few local plumbers/builders in to fit the stuff.

I would get a few quotes from companies.
ie, Wickes, B & Q, Homebase. Get them to come out, measure, design and give you a quote and wait until they have a sale on!

Victoria Plumb [online company] and Wickes in the sale.
