Bedside lights: on the wall or table lamps?

We've got wall lights by our bed at the moment, and they're pretty horrible, and I'm planning/day dreaming of re-vamping the bedroom. I can't decide whether to keep wall lights or not - they do have the merit of not taking up any space on the bedside tables and not getting knocked over or fiddled with by children (4 yr dd and 9 mths ds). On the other hand most wall lights look like they are from some tasteless pub or cheap hotel.
What does everyone else have? Any lovely recommendations?

I prefer table lamps as you can then move the room around - the wall mounted lights dictate what size bed and location!

Good point, although in this particular bedroom, the shape of room and position of window and doors make it so that there is only one place for bed to go. Sad, cos I like moving stuff round every now and then!

Why not have them hanging low from the ceiling like this t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTKaoScJZISvhC9nl6VG-oubshO3h_EwmEFNZq22hZhyT9IZAk&t=1&usg=__jtcWWYfyObcHmvfi3r24NMNKYT0= I have been to a few hotels where they have done this and it looks really nice, and also keeps your bedside tables clear. The electrics from the wall lights can be used, so it wouldn't mean to much messing about.

That's an interesting thought, Itshteyearzero. I've never seen it done, but I like the pic. I don't know whether it might look too grand for our home though! Do you think the kids would try to swing on them? Hmm Grin

Oh definitely wall lights, they don't get in the way. There are some stylish ones about, see here
