Quality oak floor - likely cost?

My PIL's have just spent £170 per sqm (yes One Seven Zero) on a wooden floor. It's lovely and all that, but obviously silly silly money. That includes fitting (you'll be pleased to hear!)

We are about to go with an oak flooring - I've never had wooden floor before. Not had it priced up yet, but in light of PIL's extravagance experience I just have no mental figure at all.

For a decent quality floor, what per square metre is a more normal price??? Just ballpark 30/40/50/60/70 etc per square metre, professionally fitted.

Many thanks.

it depends on what sort of look you want and whether you are bothered about solid or engineered. we paid 75 per sq m without fitting - aged solid oak.

Wealthy PILs!!!
Engineered is strongest, get a minimum of 4mm of wood so you've some chance to sand down. I've managed to really chase people down on price as I'm getting over 120m2 but I've got beautiful stuff for £32 psqm.

They are bringing samples - I want a fairly natural, plainish look, not too many knots. Probably oiled, not lacquered (sp?)

Were you pleased with yours?

I think ours was about £130 psqm fitted

topiarygal - where did you find it? Not sure of my exact measurements, in the region of 70sqm I think....

Will definitely see what can be done on the price.

And not so much wealthy PIL's, but they just had a moment of weakness I think! They haven't regretted though and it is beautiful, I just wanted to be sure that other lovely floors were out there for a lot less money!!!!

if you buy and fit separately it can work out cheaper for sure
