We want to view four houses. Ours is not currently on the market and we are talking with our financial advisor this week about our options.

I just hate phoning estate agents and they ask [is your house in the market' and 'what property are you in' etc etc. I find it really nosey.

Is there a way of not giving this out wihtout sounding snotty?

theyoungvisiter, I think ideally they did want to sell their houses before buying another (a couple did have their houses on the market but they were not shifting), but they saw their 'dream' house and went for it regardless. I guess eventually they will have to sell their previous homes.

I can totally understand why someone wouldn't want to spend hours cleaning/ tidying etc for an unsuitable viewing and I think it's totally the vendors choice to decide who should view their home, but they may be losing out on a potential sale by only allowing certain people in - especially in the current climate.

I believe that if someone wants their 'dream home' they'll pull any strings to get it even if it means a massive mortgage on two houses or depleting savings accounts etc.

I'm not looking to buy nor sell currently, but wish you well on your house saleSmile.

Sadly that's not a reality though for most folks! Lovely position to be in, to be able to buy your new house and rent out your old one, but for most people they are barely able to qualify for the mortgage on one house, let alone two.

However our house sale has just gone through and we're about to move - and we actually sold very quickly, contrary to what we were expecting. So I can't really moan!

theyoungvisitor: congratulations on your house sale. How long was it on the market for? We put ours on the market recently, but things have gone really quiet..Sad

It was only on the market for a week - but the actual sale took nearly 6 months all told, from offer to completion.

Things still seem pretty brisk here but we're London so I think perhaps that's a bit different. The main thing is lack of supply - that's what held us up - we had sold but we couldn't find anything on the market to move to.
