Gutting a house

Evening, my dh and I are gutting a new property and starting from scratch as it'll be our first proper home garden, land, parking etc.

But because we are starting from scratch I want everything new and pristine. Any ideas for cheap tiling, I don't mind white gloss as they're cheaper and buying patterened ones to break up the design...

Carpets..any ideas?

If you can give me a retailer/website I'd really appreciate it.

(during writing this my dh helpfully said:
"It's mumsnet not fucking homebasenet")

any help much appreciated :)

UGS, Howdens and local independent builders merchant.

Go and open a 'trade' account at each one - DH did not have a problem opening such accounts when we self built our extention 5 years ago.

Saying that, B&Q is sometimes cheaper anyway - you need to shop around if price is really important.

Other stuff e.g cooker, bathroom, flooring - we have always tended to use local independent suppliers for a combination of the good value and excellent service they provide. You can usually negotiate good deals with them e.g. on delivery charges etc.

HAve a look at WIckes too, when you spend you can collect points which you can redeem there, which is useful if you have lots of materials to buy.
