Any one had to wait ages after putting an offer in on a house?

We put an offer in on a house on Tuesday morning, it was a low offer, and we still haven't had a response. It is a bit more involved than all that. The vendor is a very elderly lady who has moved into a home and her son is taking care of it for her but he has had a stroke (we didn't know about the stroke till Wednesday), all very unfortunate. The thing is the EA is not keeping us informed at all as to what is going on. We don't know how recent the stroke was or how serious, not entirely our business I know, but we just want some idea of when we might hear something, if it is going to be few weeks, fine, but leaving us with no info and the EA being really unresponsive is driving us crazy. Also, we don't want to seem like vultures harrassing the EA waiting to take advantage of these poor people. I am just very very frustrated and feel like a rant.

Given the circumstances of low offer, owner in a home (and possibly incapable of making the decision herself) and son having had stroke, I'm not surprised you haven't heard. Regarding the low offer, the estate agent is probably waiting to see what will happen if there are more viewings booked this weekend. Who knows what will happen with the owner and her son.

I would leave it until at least midweek and then phone and say that you are viewing some other houses and wanted to know what the status was of the offer on this one.
