What colour to paint the kitchen?

We had a new kitchen done a year or two ago which is fab. The units are oak with black granite worktops and bright turquoise glass splashbacks. We also have a small run of cream gloss units near the eating area.

The problem is the colour of the walls - I had them painted white by the decorator in the meantime while I was deciding. I now know that I hate white! Also it doesn't show off the cream gloss units.

Then I thought I would use a wallpaper just in the eating area and a stone/neutral paint colour everywhere else. But the wallpaper I had my eye on has been discontinued, I can't find anything else I like and dh didn't really want wallpaper in the kitchen anyway.

So I need to find a paint colour that works. I love our turquoise glass, it's a feature so the colour needs to work with that. But it also needs to be enough of a colour so there's enough of a contrast with the cream gloss units.

Any ideas?

I think you are pretty limited if you want to keep the turquoise glass a feature unless you want to go quite dark with the paint. I saw a gorgeous picture of kitchen with really dark walls and bright glass - not sure from memory if they were black, dark brown, navy or a sort of deep deep plum, but they set off the bright ??? beautifully. Would be brave!

Or could you separate the painting near the glass from the painting near the cream units?
