Ideas for fire place please

We are instaling this woodburning stove into our existing fire place. And need ideas as to how to finsh off the inside.

We live in an Edwardian semi with many of the arts and crafts features maintained but sullied by the addition of some horribly in appropriate '70's features (the current fire place being one)

We are thinking of some sandstone on the inside back and sides (keeping current wooden mantle piece). Any ideas and or picture will be greatly appreciated

I would tile it.

Ah yes. But which tile?

I am thinking a beautiful gloss enamel in dark red or green...you know, the small ones you get in a brick pattern in a lot of fireplaces.

About 10cm by 5.

Make sure the wooden mantlepiece is the regulatory distance for combustible materials (300mm?) from the top of the stove.

Thanks snorkie. We've checked with the builder and manufacturer and we've got plenty of space Smile

I'm leaning towards a blue glossy tiles.

can't see what your wood burning stove looks like (link not working for me) - but we had similar considerations. We finally decided on a black paving stone with a plain oak surround (with a metal panel under the oak to shield the heat). In a previous iteration we just plastered and painted it behind, and had pan tiles as the hearth.

You have to consider how hot it is likely to get behind the stove.

We have black bricks in ours, but blue tiles sounds lovely too Smile.

Oh, we've just started looking into this. Do regular tile shops sell these tiles or do you have to go to fireplace shops? Any online links would be wonderful.
