Unusual places to find houses for sale

Okay so am signed up to rightmove, zoopla, findapropety and various others but are there less conventional websites? Am thinking ones where owners want a private sale etc. Have tried Sarah Beenys new one Tepilo too.

Oh and google maps now has an AWESOME function where you put in "property" into your map and it shows you all the property for sale in the area from all the websites trouble is it isnt always that uptodate.

So what else can I do to find a house!

Drive round the areas you like and look for boards (home made boards suggest a private sale).

Auction houses?

Sadly area we are looking is one of those zones where you can't display boards- heritage zone or summat! Sigh.

Having a rummage for auction houses but nowt in area coming up at mo.

Have leafletted a few streets we like but no response, but may try again and widen search a bit.

try tepilo which is sarah beeny's site. it's all private sales.

or globrix.com (or co.uk)

if not flyer round the streets that you want to live in you never know and ask if anyone wants to sell. it happened to two of my friends recently

have you contacted the estate agents in the area you're looking in

was talking to BIL earlier who's mate works as an EA. Apparently they don't list all properties on the websites. If it's something they know will sell quickly they don't always bother to list it online

Trying to buy a house in quite a small area at the moment. I'd agree you need to register with the agents. By the time a house is on the website it's often under offer. I also had a go at buying a house when the chain fell through, because the agent knew I was keen.

Some agents seem to ignore their collection of contact details of registered applicants, of course. But others are good.

may retry and flyer again. I am registered with virtually every agent and am contacting a few weekly so they keep me in mind if something comes up.

Hmmm dont think there is much more that I can do short of hiring an assassin for residents in a street I like and hoping the will beneficiaries put the houses up for sale!
