Red or Black Ridge Tiles?

Hi, Need help making decision. We have recently renewed our roof slates as we've had an extension and it seemed to make sense to get our whole roof updated (1930's house so no felt etc).

We know have to decide on the ridge tiles we really didn't like the last red terracotta ones we had and in an ideal world would have ridge tiles to match our slate but getting a match is impossible.

Nearest colour is black, the property is rendered and will be painted in a stone type colour so we are wondering if black may make it look a bit more contempoary?

Advice please or opinions I don't mind! The are the interlocking sort, are roofers say red but I think they are just being traditional.

Thanks

I would say black or grey, if you can get grey. I think red with a slate roof would look really odd. I expect your roofers are saying red cos they're probably much easier to get hold of, whereas black or grey might give them a bit of hassle to source - or they can't be bothered to try and find them Smile. Although I can't imagine they're that unusual.

We have a 150 year old cottage with a slate roof and dark grey ridge tiles that pretty much match the slates. I don't think you have to get an exact match. Just something fairly close as all the slates and tiles will weather to a slightly different colour anyway. IMHO red would look terrible.

strangely enough dh and i were talking about this very thing recently!

we were away for the weekend and kept seeing red ridge tiles on houses which had grey slate roofs - we both thought this looked very odd so, on the basis of that, i would def go for grey/black ridge tiles.

We have gone for black, got some new red ones to try and they looked odd becuase they are so new. Think the red clay on a slate is maybe a traditional thing? Lots around the area we live in anyway.
