anyone care to recommend a removals company?

South London - moving out about 100 miles.

Looking for something more reliable than man and van, but not as pricey as Pickfords.

I used Realiable Removals and they were great.

If you go cheap make sure you check their insurance carefully. We went for someone pretty cheap last time we moved and three or four things got damaged (table top, a lamp etc) but their insurance covered it all. It was frustrating getting it sorted but we save a couple of thousand pounds so it was worth it.

We used Simply Removals. The team they sent were all East Europeon but they were efficient, hard working, obliging and very pleasant so far as I could tell since I don't speak Polish! We were very impressed with them. They had a no nonsense approach to things

Not sure how tied you are on your moving date but if you have some flexibility ask for quote for different dates. I moved the day after the Easter weekend and it was a cheap day to do it as most people wanted to move before or during it in order to have time to set everything up over the long weekend. It was 160 plus VAT to move out of a 2 bed flat although they charged a bit extra for dealing with taking apart and reassembling a few bit of flat pack furninture
