Towel radiators

Has anyone had a towel radiator inserted in the place of their normal radiator? How easy is it? Can you do it yourself or do you need a plumber? How much did it cost?

I can't anwser any of your questions, as we had ours in place when we moved in BUT in the winter you get lovely warm towels but a freezing cold bathroom as the towels absorb all the hear. As a result we have bought a free-standing towel rail in order that the heated one can heat the room!

We did. It was very straightforward (basically you're swapping one radiator for another) but we got a plumber in, as dh has no DUY skils whatsoever. The towel radiator was about £120 and the plumber wasn't much.

But be aware they don't put out as much heat as a radiator. No problem for us, as the bathroom was very warm anyway, but be aware.

We got the biggest one that would fit floor to ceiling - hot towels and a hot bathroom . Old one was 1/2 the height and wouldn't even fit 2 bath towels plus bathroom was cold. Also got a thermocouple so we can have hot towels when we don't have the rest of the heating on. Should be easy enough to fit yourself if you have basic plumbing ability. Biggest thing will be the difference in width between the old radiator pipes and the width of the towel rail.
