Painting Lincrusta wallpaper

We have Lincrusta wallpaper which we want to repaint in the hallway, stairs and landing of our new house. I suspect it is going to absolutely drink paint and take ages to do.

It is quite heavily embossed (Byzantine design) and I think we may need a very fine roller to prevent the paint pooling.

I'd be very grateful for any hot tips on painting this knobbly paper before we embark on the mammoth project.

TIA

I've never had it or painted it but I'd probably ask an experienced decorator for advice (get them to quote for painting it to see what is involved).

my dh used to do this for a living. He says use a brush not a roller and apply no pressure to surface,

thanks for your replies, painting starts soon!
