Taking up cracked bathroom floor tiles

We have so many cracked bathroom floor tiles that rather than try and replace the cracked ones I think I would rather lay a new floor (definitley not white floor tiles this time as they are a bugger to keep clean and very cold underfoot!). I will probably get some kind of lino laid instead, although haven't a clue really. Do I need to remove all the floor tiles before a floor person comes to fit a new floor or do they do it? Underneath the tiles it looks like cracked concrete, although the bathroom is on the first floor. Does anyone know anything about laying new bathroom floors please?

Thanks so much sooz28. That is exactly what I needed to know. I guess the starting place is to get the tiles up and see how bad it is underneath - a job for when school starts I think!
