Redoing bathroom and I am keen on a freestanding bath. DH with his every so practical hat on says they must be a pain to clean around. I told him MNers would know!

traditionally freestanding baths should be freestanding, ie, in the middle of the room, therefore easy to clean around.

if you are planning on putting it against a wall, remember that it is going to be difficult to make it water tight around the edges, you need to consider with you can use a shower above it.

also you will probably have pipe work from the waste and to the taps which may be seen and you need to consider are you tiling to the ground etc.

hubby has installed a few and says that unless they are a reasonable expensive model, they can be flimsy and a bit unstable aroung the leg area.

hope that helps.

We have one against a wall.

It is terrible to clean round/under/over.

Not water tight either. Useless.

I asked this one a few months ago, and people generally agreed that if they were against a wall, they weren't easy to clean around / behind, etc.

Alas. Because I wanted one, but am a lazy sod and don't want a manky bath.

We have one, about a foot away from the wall, very easy to clean under and around.

Thanks all. Will go for built in option I think. For I too am a lazy sod and want ease!

Good to see another lazy sod going for the easy option.

"Freestanding" style bath that fits along a wall?

artyjools · 22/08/2010 20:34

I'm looking for a new house and if I see one with a roll top bath, my heart sinks...nice if you have hot and cold cleaners, otherwise no no no no! Have never had one but bathrooms are bad enough to clean when they have nice straight clean lines.

And don't get me onto those twiddly bits under most toilets - designed my men in the safe knowledge that they would NEVER have to clean one.

I have one almost exactly like the one Schnitzel linked to, from Bathstore. It's a great compromise for me.
