Not sure if it's a silly question - but should I tip the removal men?

Just wondering if I am supposed to or not? We are paying the company enough for moving (!) but is it the done thing to tip the guys or do they just expect copious amounts of tea and biscuits?

We did, but it was a freezing snowy day and they had worked bloody hard! You may have paid the company loads but they probably won't pay the men loads, so it's a nice gesture if they've done a good job for you. And yes copious tea and biscuits will work well to keep them going :)

We didn't
moving house is expensive enough

Heartsease · 18/08/2010 14:37

I did, but they were absolute champions and had given me a very good price. I did it because, at the end of it, I genuinely felt like I wanted to buy them a drink -- I hadn't particularly planned to do it, and it didn't seem to be expected.

hmm i have a very good friend who has a family removal company and i know they work really hard are very helpfull friendly ect. if your are aswell i can say from experience (dh works with the public aswell) a 'drink' would be a very thoughtfull jesture but obviously not expected between £10-£5 each as there is normally only 2 hope that helps

We're moving on Friday and the forecast is rubbish - rainy all day so I am thinking they might deserve a tip!! You are right, meg, it's probably not the guys who do the hard work who get all the dosh. Do you mind me asking how much you tipped, those of you who did??

We usually do, In our younger days with less possesions we had a man and his van (plus his mate) who we gave a box of beer to, as we've got older and more possessions, I usually do a £10 each (typically teams of 4)

Heartsease · 18/08/2010 14:44

I had two guys and gave them £20.

notasize10yetbutoneday · 18/08/2010 15:36

We did, they worked incredibly hard on a hot June day. We gave them £30, between the 2 men we had for most of the day and the other 2 they sent for the last couple of hours so they could get finished.

megonthemoon · 18/08/2010 17:47

We did a tenner each.
