Are they cheaper than granite? Seen them mentioned on MN but unsure of what they are exactly

i think it's a composite and it's v expensive...but it's a while since i did a kitchen.

gloriaaa · 16/08/2010 22:32

Has anyone got them and if so are they happy with them?

imo nothing surpases the beauty of natural granite. Corian is a brand name made up by a company, look it up.

We have them and I'm very happy with ours. They aren't cheaper than granite but you get a much bigger range and when they are fitted they are completely seamless (if done well) - you can't see any joins on ours at all. We got them from here. They did an excellent job and were MUCH cheaper than the place we got the kitchen from. HTH.

It is not necessarily all cast as one piece. We had one long piece, one short. They were put together and polished to make them seamless on site.

I love mine, chose it for the colour, granite only seemed to come in dark colours and wanted a light colour. Wasn't any cheaper than granite.
Had it for 3 years, looks great

FatGirlThin · 20/08/2010 18:50

DoMeAFavour - what do you use to clean yours? If I use an ordinary spray I find I do have to give a quick wipe over with a teatowel if I don't want streaks (we do have very hard water).

domeafavour · 20/08/2010 21:17

for everday I use dettox spray and Try those microfibre cloths. But mine is light coloured, cream with flecks, so you don't really see the streaks. Had dark ones before in rented accom they I could never get clean, cos of the hard water

FatGirlThin · 20/08/2010 22:31

Ah, that makes sense. I will try the microfibre cloths too. Thanks Smile

domeafavour and FatGirlThin:

roughly how much did you pay for your corian?

I've been quoted £3800 for straight run of 3.3 metres with sink, drainer, hob cut out and upstand.

I know corian is expensive, but this works out to be more than £1000 per metre!!!!

Thanks Confused

trumpton · 24/08/2010 09:33

price sounds about right to me. We have had ours 12 years and they are still very good. Need a polish now as DCs have marked them but would have again.

domeafavour · 24/08/2010 20:39

Yeah I reckon we paid about 3k for 3 or 4 metres about three years ago. There isn't a mark on it.
