Laminate flooring

Have just had it fitted by Carpetright (yes, I know, that was my first mistake) and am not very happy. I had to nip out to doctors before fitter was finished and stupidly paid him before I left.
When I got back I noticed that the doorbar by double doors out to conservatory has a join in it. It looks really bad as around 3/4 is one door bar and the other 1/4 is another so not even half and half which would have looked slightly better (if that makes sense) Also, the door now won't shut properly.

I phoned Carpetright Saturday and fitter phoned this morning and basically said tough luck, I'd need to sort. Bloody livid as it wasn't cheap and I'd paid him in good faith that he would do the job properly. Have chased store and they have said they will order a (proper length) door bar and 'try to get it fitted' but said door up to me. Its driving me mad as won't close and creaks when it moves.

Also, lots of scuff marks on it already and not sure what to clean it with. What do you use to clean laminate? DS has somehow managed to jam a wooden soldier under one of the doors which has left a blue scuff mark that won't come of.
Advice on cleaning/removing mark gratefully received.

yes i think you said it all with carpet right there bloody useles!
they are right in the fact the door is up to you to alter they are only responsible for fitting the flooring.

take pictures and make a formal complaint to there head office and send a copy to the manager at the local store where you had the agreement with.

some fitters arnt very good and do it far to quickly to get as many done in a day as possible.

you can buy a laminate cleaner but TBH it may need a light scrub used nailvarnish my self on some marks also white spirt which did the trick with paint marks just be gentle and dont use a brillo pad!

poor you, hope you get it sorted soon.

for cleaning my laminate floor I use a rectangular mop + all purpose cleaner. just make sure you get one that is safe for laminate and never mop wet, wring the mop as much as possible.

E cloth mop cleans just with water. Makes a good job.
Bummer about the fitting !! Surely it's the fitter's responsibility to make sure the door actually flipping' closes ??

sorry i meant to say use nail varnish remover! not nail varnish!

mumoverseas · 16/08/2010 20:36

ooh, thanks for that, will try the nail varnish remover. So bloody annoying the appalling job and also the attitude of the fitter/store manager.
Had the whole downstairs of mums house in an other area done by carpetright/different fitter a few weeks ago and completely different story. Fitter was really nice and helped move furniture and cleared up after himself. This guy just dumped loads of crap in my front garden Angry.

Hinny I'd have thought that too! bloody nuisance as I can't shut the door between study and conservatory now and as a result can't activate my burglar alarm as all internal doors need to be shut!

Thanks for your help ladies. Hopefully can get nice and clean again now!
