Really deep, matt, dark, grey paint?

Have used a Dulux, have-it-mixed-at-B&Q darkest grey matt emulsion, but now it's on it just doesn't look dark enough, or matt enough, or, come to think of it, grey enough. It's kind of bluey grey and reminds me of a submarine Grin.
Any recommendations please?

F&B Downpipe is reccied a lot in magazines

DukesOfTripHazard · 16/08/2010 18:23

I had a downpipe front door. It's good. Very dark.

trixymalixy · 16/08/2010 21:30

Definitely downpipe by f&b.

sarimillie · 17/08/2010 06:08

Look at Graphite by Sanderson, too.

Agree downpipe.Have never seen off black on walls would it look good against white cornicing and woodwork etc in a west facing room with lots of light and high ceilings?

Don't have it but have seen it.Am currently knee deep in rubble and have to move out of rented by 26 sept! I am going to have the lot replastered and white and then going to add colour.I love colour if used well and find the obsession with 'light'doesn't always work.

noddyholder · 17/08/2010 17:42

lovely colour on walls Am considering a moroccan tiled shower 'pod' in a pure white bathroom

Decorhate · 17/08/2010 20:26

Sone good examples of dark walls

here

And if you google Gemma Ahern (Abigail's sister) you can see lots of photos of her apartment (has been featured in several magazines lately) such as

this

where you can see how the hallway is being used to display artwork on a dark background

noddyholder · 17/08/2010 21:27

I had a black damask bathroom in a flat once and the fittings looked great against it

noddyholder · 17/08/2010 21:27

Like that decorhate so simple but so much impact

Decorhate · 17/08/2010 21:32

I am sort of toying with doing something like that on our upstairs landing (posted ages ago looking for suggestions which I think you helped on but haven't done anything about it yet!)

My big problem is that we have spent years and lots of money trying to bring more light into the house so think dh would be a bit Confused if I start painting the walls dark. So I am probably going to go for white walls (or maybe a paler grey!)

aftereight · 18/08/2010 09:58

Thanks everyone, sorry I disappeared for a couple of days..
Love the belle maison blog, have bookmarked

You know, I almost bought F&B downpipe, but after spending hundreds on F&B paint over the past year and being a touch fed up of their prices, thought I'd go off piste. False economy if ever I saw it Hmm

Just decorated bedroom black, looks amazing with dark 4 poster and grey vertical stripe curtains. So thought I'd try similar in downstairs loo, hence the paint..

It's a very tall (3m) narrow (70cm) space so am painting above picture rail in dark grey, and hanging a little chandelier - I want the look to be OTT with light hanging low and ceiling above to recede. Then LA linen & charcoal wallpaper (oriental garden) below picture rail. Black floor tiles already there.
