I am in the process of decorating my DSs bedroom, and the previous colour on one of the walls was darkish blue. This is to be covered over with a matt green colour.

Thinking the blue would make the green dark if I just painted on top, last night I undercoated the wall in a white emulsion, which was a silk (what I was doing ceiling in)

As it was 6pm on a sunday and no shops were open, I had to make do, but now I am going over the wall in the green, and the coverage is shite Sad The green isn't going on well over the white SadSad

Will it look shiny once I get a few coats up?

Was it bloody stupid to undercoat the wall in a silk?

Have done all my own decorating, and feel I have made my first ever school boy error....!

Don't know about the silkv.matt element of it, but I would say a second coat would cover it? m surprised though that a dark-ish green isn't covering white though- is it really patchy or just a bit in some lights?

It's cos you painted matt over silk, I'm afraid. I think you'll need to rub it down and undercoat it with an acrylic undercoat, judging by this

Grr!!!

Really peed off because I told my OH not to use it, the coverage would be awful, but he kept saying it would be fine.

Why did I listen to the man whose own house looks like a patchwork quilt of rubbish paint jobs!

Thanks for replies, guys.

Will apply a coat, and will see how it goes. If it looks naff, I may sand down and try again (not that DS will give a hoot, but I'll know and will see the shod bits!)
