About to choose a new living room carpet and I would ideally like a nice "squishy" sort that I can sink my toes into IFKWIM.

To get this effect am I best off paying reasonable price for the carpet or not worrying too much about the price of the carpet but getting expensive underlay ??

I would say a good, thick underlay will make all the difference. Also think about how much the pile of the actual carpet will flatten - you may need something synthetic in the mix to make it harder wearing...

Agree thick (best you can afford)underlay is key. We have just had new carpets fitted in our house, 80/20 wool, and had the best underlay we could get in all rooms except a spare room where we didnt realise til the night before the carpet fitters were coming, that the existing underlay was GLUED to the floor and would have probably taken an age to remove. So we left the existing underlay in that room, but now the carpets are fitted you can really tell the difference between that room and the others which are lovely and squishy.

I have nice squishy bedroom carpet. It is axminister with equal quality underlay. WE got it free though. I'd rather have flat carpet than a bill that size Grin

However it would prove that you get what you pay for.
