I live in Doncaster but whilst I know of Norton I'm not overly familiar with it.

We've driven through a few times (used to be a popular pick your own strawberries site there) and dh always liked it. It is quite out on a limb though so I guess it depends what you are looking for. I rely on public transport alot so it wouldn't suit us. The nearest place with plenty of facilities is Askern, a former pit village, pretty much the opposite of Norton.

Do you want a quiet rural type village and how important are schools and local facillities to you?

Hickleton is a nice village though largely based around a busy road (Doncaster to Barnsley). Sprotbrough is not as rural but the village part is nice and schools have a good reputation. It is also fairly well located for motorways too.

My grandparents lived in sprotborough and I liked it alot, but that was a while ago. Had a googlemap snoop at their house the other day and is has changed loads!

My Grandparents were from Sprotbrough too!

My choice would be Tickhill. We lived there for several years and it is a great place to live. The only downside is that the secondary schools are not so great but that may not be a requirement for you, hope this helps :)

thanks - when i checked this earlier i had no replies!

i wont move until DD has finished school as she loves her school in Carlton - and its highly oversubscribed so i darent take her out!

so schools not an issue. working in rotherham so would ideally like a commute of about 30 mins....someone else mentioned tickhill today at work so may well do some research!

thanks! anymore for anymore?

not remotely familiar with this area.

I am from Rotherham originally and my father still lives there. If I was moving back I would definitely look at Tickhill first but there are also some nice areas in Rotherham such as Whiston and Moorgate, there are also areas that are not so great in my opinion. Let me know if you want any more information :)
