Which dark wood stain please?

I have a few pine cupboards/bookcases of a reasonable quality which I would like to stain dark.

Has anyone tried this with any success and if so, what did you use?

staining is good but remember to strip the unit right back free from any old wax or varnish apint etc or the stain wont take properly a woodstain then clear varnish or wax is the easiest way to do it with the best results unless you are quite good at it stain varnishes are tricky to apply without streaking and have to have more thin layers apllied.
