What shall I do with this desk?

I've been given an old oak desk which is basically sound but needs a bit of cheering up. It's got a few ring marks on the top and a small gouge along the front edge which I'd need to fill.

Can't decide if I should paint it, lime it, or do something else with it.

Pictures on my profile. What would you suggest?

tbh i would just strip the old finish and either oil or wax it.

Thanks. Though I was wondering about tarting it up and selling it. Would your advice be the same?

I'd agree with Ceres, also Gumtree is a good place to sell stuff.

If it's oak, don't paint it or lime it - sand it like Ceres says, and if it's a bit battered that'll add to the charm!
Just checked out the pics, very nice! I see it with a jug of flowers on top and maybe the odd photo frame, and a chair in front with a faded cotton flowery cushion on.
Sell it to me? Grin

I'll email you the "after photos" linspins and we can see if you still like it!
