What sort of bathroom tiles are people putting in these days?

We're looking at tiles for our bathroom, and I have no idea what the general trends are...what is in and what is out? Big tiles, stone effect, mosaics, brick shaped tiles? Matt or high shine? Colours or plain?
I'm thinking about brick shaped tiles, put on long ways with joints staggered, possibly matt cream, all over. Too boring? Should I have a band of 'accent' colour, or is that outdated?!
It's a small bathroom which will get the evening sun, just bath with shower over, and a sink.
We have very hard water here (lots of limescale) so I think glossy tiles would be a mistake?
Ladies with style, what do you think? Grin

black glossy brickwork tiles and everything else white and chrome. I think it looks fab. Very convincing wood effect vinyl on the floor makes it not look too clinical.

This is it mid build.

MaamRuby yours sounds lovely. I wanted a horizontal stripe as well, to make ours feel bigger, but DH overruled me Envy.

Know what you mean about glittery tiles. I noticed that our tile shop was selling glitter grout - eeewwww!

Naetha, those black tiles look lovely! It would be too dark for our tiny room but looks very grand in yours. How's the limescale in your area?

I have these in cream in our tiny bathroom - looks really well as the detail tiles are exactly the same shade as the big tiles and the same tiles go on floor and walls. Also the marbled effect hides the limescale really well and big tiles means less grout to get mucky!
